On Friday, July 11, 2025, DOGANA (Dow Graduates Association of North America) proudly presented its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to Prof. Jahan Ara Hasan, a trailblazer in academic medicine, women’s health, and institutional leadership, at the 2025 Summer Meeting in Dallas, Texas.

Prof. Jahan Ara Hasan, a 1989 graduate of Dow Medical College and the first PhD graduate of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), has spent her entire career transforming the landscape of academic medicine in Pakistan. With over three decades of contributions to education, research, and healthcare administration, she has also pioneered advancements as a PhD supervisor, institutional leader, and mentor.

In her heartfelt remarks, Prof. Hasan reflected on her journey: “This recognition is deeply meaningful to me, not just as a personal milestone, but as a reflection of the journey I have taken alongside so many colleagues, students, mentors, and patients throughout my career I am grateful to Allah (SWT), my family, the Dow community, and DOGANA for this generous recognition.”

Throughout her career, Prof. Hasan has held key leadership roles at DUHS, including Medical Superintendent of Dow University Hospital, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Ojha Campus, and is currently serving as an Interim Vice Chancellor of DUHS. Her efforts resulted in multiple institutional accreditations, the launch of new fellowship programs, and improvements in clinical and research standards.

A tireless advocate for women in medicine, Prof. Hasan has mentored hundreds of young physicians and researchers, encouraging them to lead with empathy and purpose. Her message to the younger generation, especially women, was both inspiring and empowering: “Pursue excellence, but never lose your empathy. Lead, but always remember to lift others as you rise.”

DOGANA’s Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes exceptional Dow alumni whose careers embody service, leadership, and impact. During the award ceremony, DOGANA President Dr. Aamir Ehsan stated, “Prof. Jahan Ara Hasan exemplifies the spirit of Dow graduates. Her legacy of academic excellence and institutional service inspires future generations. We are honored to recognize her as a beacon of leadership, integrity, and innovation.”
