Samia Faiz, MD
President DOGANA 2023
Dear Dowites,
I am incredibly grateful and honored to be president of DOGANA for 2023. I want to thank everyone for entrusting me with this critical responsibility, and I pledge to work tirelessly to ensure our organization’s continued prosperity and success.
As president of DOGANA, my goal and duty are to promote the organization’s interests. I will work with my esteemed members of the executive council, central council, and valued committees this year to inspire transparency and communication within the organization. We are determined to foster a supportive and inclusive environment, providing networking opportunities and social events. We will strive to promote an open channel for collaboration with our members, adhering to the principles of transparency, integrity, and quality in all that we do.
We are set to create and support new projects while continuing to promote our current projects: The DOGANA Genome Project, Loan Program, Visiting Faculty, YPC providing support to recent graduates, University of Maryland project providing observership to DOW students, Advocacy committee facilitating visas for students, and document verification through the DOGANA website. We plan to continue to provide DUHS students with more educational resources, mock interviews, observerships, and opportunities for residency training in the US. The Disaster Relief committee had tremendous support for flood relief efforts in Pakistan, and we collected more than $140,000, which was sent to Edhi for flood relief. In addition, DOGANA received the Overseas Pakistani Medal of Excellence for its work. We aim to continue our efforts to support members, their families, and communities in need.
We intend to continue to advocate for our fellow alumni together here in the US, cherishing our senior membership while empowering our future generation. Through open communication and updating our membership periodically, we can facilitate new developments, increase our membership, especially from the recent graduates, and reach our potential as a collective.
In addition, we are excited to invite our membership, friends, families, and other Alumni groups to DOGANA Annual Retreat in Los Angeles from May 19-20, 2023, at Anaheim Marriott, Anaheim, CA.
Once again, thank you all for this phenomenal opportunity. I look forward to collaborating with each of you to impact the lives of our DOGANA community positively.
Sincerely,
Samia Faiz, MD
DOGANA President 2023
